About Us

The activities we undertake to improve animal welfare standards are split between two organisations: Naturewatch, a limited company, and Naturewatch Foundation, a registered charity.  The reason for this is because much of our work involves political lobbying and there are restrictions put upon charities working in this area.  Working via the two organisations ensures we have the flexibility to be as effective as possible.

Naturewatch is a non-profit, animal welfare campaigning organisation mainly involved in political lobbying. Our aims are to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals and to conduct and support the publication of information concerning animals in furtherance of their welfare.  The organisation works strictly within the democratic system, condemns all illegal activity and believes that an evolutionary approach is better than a revolutionary one.

We do not receive government funding so rely entirely upon the generosity of our supporters and the general public to continue our work. All income is used to pursue the goals of the organisation.

Naturewatch Foundation was established as a registered charity in 1993 (Registered Number 1039679). The Foundation undertakes campaigns to raise public awareness of particular issues and influence public opinion, and supports humane education projects.

The charity also provides support for the improvement and development of animal welfare standards in Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on pioneering projects that directly improve the lives of animals.

We are lucky enough to have some wonderful Celebrity Patrons, all of whom we've had a relationship with for many years.  Their celebrity status helps us draw public and media attention to specific campaigning issues when required and for this we are most grateful.
