In 2008, Naturewatch launched its 'Spotlight on China' campaign.  Since then we have continued to expose the widespread abuse that China inflicts upon its animals; and we will continue to do so until the Chinese authorities show commitment to improving their animal welfare practices.

We have supported various Chinese animal welfare groups since the launch of 'Spotlight on China' including, Shenzhen Cats, Changsha Small Animal Protection Society and we are currently supporting the China Animal Protection Media Salon, by publicising their valuable work to expose and end the illegal capture and sale of cats for human consumption.

Meeting with Lord Clement-Jones

Campaign Managers, Jennie Rudd and Debbie Dawson, held a meeting with Lord Clement-Jones at the House of  Lords in December 2010, to discuss how to take our Spotlight on China campaign forward. Lord Clement-Jones is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on China and carried out some research on our behalf whilst in Hong Kong earlier in the year.

We would like to thank Lord Clement-Jones for inviting us to the House of Lords, and for his helpful advice about ways to tackle animal welfare issues in China and suggestions of possible valuable contacts.  His insight into China's politics and attitudes is very useful to our work.  Image left: Lord Clement-Jones with Jennie Rudd
