Issues and Trends in Animal Experiments
Who does what and why
In the academic sector, the number of animal experiments has risen for a 6th successive year. In 2007 this sector alone performed 45% of animal experiments in the UK, outstripping other sectors.
Between 1993 and 2005 the commercial sector saw a steep decline in its use of animals in experiments. However, from 2005 onwards there has been, a steady increase in animal experiments in the commercial sector, with figures rising in 2007, to their highest level in seven years.
