An encounter with a stray pelican

The bird soon became a national celebrity, with Lithuania’s leading TV Channel LNK organizing a 'Name the Pelican Contest' for children.

However, an unusual bird brought unusual problems (not just involving supplying sufficient fish): when the bird ringing centre wanted to ring it, they had to place a special order to Poland, because no Lithuanian bird has a leg as big as a pelican's.

But a larger issue remained: where, exactly, should it be released back into the wild? Lithuania was hardly the best place!
