Christine Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare

FCOD 1998

" I have recently started using the Liz Earle range of Body Care and Beauty Products which are guaranteed free from animal ingredients or derivatives and also are NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. I can recommend this range to anyone as they are made purely from plant extracts and smell wonderful!" Christine Summers. Available here

Ann Lavera Products

FCOD 1998

I'm another NW lover of Lavera products. My absolutely must-have favourite is the Orange Milk Volume Shampoo for fine hair, which has the most gorgeous delicate orange scent.  It's a pleasure just to open the bottle and breathe it in!  Plus it really does add volume and bounce to my pathetically fine hair.  There are other fruity shampoos for other hair types, including a nice apple one. I also love the Winter Orange Shower and Bath Gel, more delicious orange with the faintest hint of spice. I thoroughly recommend these and the make-up products I have tried, so far various lip glosses, eye liners and mascaras. I buy mine from Arkadash organic and fair trade shops in Chorlton (Manchester) and Leeds. Available here

“Faith in Nature sell award winning cruelty-free environmentally friendly products – some organic ingredients, no SLES or parabens. Much of their packaging is recyclable. The Aloe Vera and Lavender skin care range is excellent. Bath and hair products are available in a choice of lovely, natural fragrances. The Aloe Vera Shower Gel is particularly good for sensitive skin, and the Hemp and Meadowfoam Shampoo/Conditioner are highly recommended for fine, flyaway hair. Their laundry and washing-up liquids are also very effective and gentle with a pleasing natural scent. Finally, their mail order service is friendly and efficient.” Sally, Winchester Available here

SusanLittle Satsuma Soaps

FCOD 1986

"Hi, I'd like to recommend Little Satsuma Soaps, they are lovely and gentle on the skin, use completely natural ingredients and are reasonably priced. I especially like the chocolate and rose varieties as they smell beautiful. The soap is solid so there is minimal packaging and as the company does not use Palm oil, it means that orangutans' habitats are not being destroyed. They also donate 10p to the Orangutan Foundation for every soap sold! They also sell a 'sisal suds & soap bag' which can be used to put the soap in and use as an exfoliating treatment, and the Beatles-inspired 'Scouse soaps' would make a humourous gift." - Susan, Berkshire. Available here

JudithPurely Skin Care Shower Wash and Handmade Soap

FCOD 1986

"Purely Skin Care make a couple of lovely products - shower wash and handmade soap, both free from the dreaded sulphates and parabens, and are reasonably priced too. They are very mild and come in four wonderful "flavours": lavender, rosemary & geranium; grapefruit & lemongrass, and ginger & orange. I particularly love the shower wash and use it as a shampoo as it is so gentle." - Judith. Available here

Deborah Urtekram Rose Liquid Roll-on Deodorant, 50ml

FCOD 1998

"This organic and natural product is brilliant, it comes in a clear glass bottle so you can see exactly how much you have left. The rose is not overpowering, and it doesn't sting even after shaving! It lasts approximately six weeks, and is priced around £5.95. I believe the company also does an unscented version. It doesn't mark your clothes, and dries quickly. I bought mine in Unicorn Vegan Super Market, Chorlton, Manchester. It's also available to buy in wholefood stores nationwide." - Deborah, Manchester. Available here

Beryl Martha Hill

FCOD 1992

"I use Martha Hill products and I can’t recommend them too highly.  I have very sensitive skin and as I am a mature lady I use the Evening Primrose range.  I have been using Martha Hill products for many years and it is a wonderful feeling to have access to and be able to use a full range of wonderful products in the knowledge that no living thing has suffered in the process.  I am often being complimented on how my skin looks, so I am very grateful to Martha Hill and am always recommending the company." Beryl Johns. Available here

Jayne Co-op Toiletries

FCOD 1985

"I'm writing to tell people about all the great range of toiletries the Co-op stock and it's well worth a look. They have an extensive range of hair products to cover every type (and they are all good —  know cos I like to change around!!), their bath products (one for relaxing with patchouli and lavender is tops) are super and all very reasonably priced. And I use Co-op own brand soap powder, softeners etc, which are as good as the 'branded names', cheaper and of course with a fixed cut-off date implemented, which is the most important thing. It's great to be able to walk into one place and do my shop knowing it hasn't cost an animal any suffering." — Jayne, Barnoldswick.

Renée M&S Florentyna Fragrances

FCOD 2006

"Since Naturewatch has endorsed M&S, together with the RSPCA, I have ventured into their toiletries section and discovered some really lovely inexpensive stuff. There's so much to choose from, and as I like 'soft pink floral' things, I really love their 'Florentyna' eau de toilette, body spray and lotions, etc. Cruelty-free perfume has always been thin on the ground, and since Meadowsweet no longer do their beautiful range, I am so happy to find some right in the high street. I must have cleansers that wash off, and M&S do a nice range. I love their 'Formula Nourishing Facial Wash' which, in the 'soft pink' style is creamy and pearly with a delicate scent."
— Renée, Northampton. Available here

Jennie M&S Pressed Powder Foundation

FCOD 2006

"So thrilled that M&S is now cruelty-free and is now endorsed by Naturewatch! I bought their Pressed Powder foundation last week and it makes my face feel really soft. Love it! ... And it's only £2.50. :-)"
— Jennie, Cheltenham. Available here

Michelle Neal's Yard Organic Herbal Lip Balm

FCOD 1998

"I needed to find something for cleansing my skin after Body Shop went over to the dark side. So I ordered a Neal's Yard catalogue and haven't looked back since. All their ingredients are organic and pesticide free. It's all in glass and if you send the empty bottles back to them, they'll recycle them! Even the packing is bio-degradable!!! I love their Herbal Lip Balm, which contains beeswax, as it really helps my lips keep soft in the cold weather."
— Michelle, Southampton. Available here

Lucy Liz Earle Products

FCOD 1998

"All Liz Earle products are fantastic, especially if you suffer from combination or patchy, dry skin. The Brightening treatment and deep nourishing treatment are really good and don't forget Cleanse and Polish. Comfort bath oil is heavenly - vanilla, cedarwood and much more. This range tries to use only totally natural ingredients. The only point to remember with this is that it's mail order and the packaging can be a bit OTT, I just ask for it not to be wrapped as I like to do my bit for the environment." — Lucy, Christchurch. Available here

Lisa Moom Botanical Hair Removal

FCOD 1992

"I have been using this wax for a couple of months now and it's incredible! You don't need to use as much as other waxing products, and it is very gentle on the skin. I have very sensitive skin and it leaves my legs feeling soft and not red in the slightest. Definitely one to try!" — Lisa, Bristol. Available here

Lauran Saaf Organic Skin Balancing Oil

FCOD 2004

"I've only been using Saaf organic skin balancing oil for a few weeks and already I've noticed my pores are shrinking and skin looks more healthy and supple. A little goes a long way, and I know it seems odd that an oil-based product should work on oily/combination skin but it really does! I buy it from Oakwood Health Foods and Natural Healthcare (458 Roundhay Road, Leeds), which also sells many other cruelty free goods."
— Lauran, Leeds. Available here

Sarah Yaoh's Organic Hemp Seed Oil Lip Balm

FCOD 1985

"Yaoh's vegan cruelty-free lip salve range is available in 5 delicious flavours: Spearmint, Strawberries and Cream, Mango and Kiwi Fruit, Coconut and Blueberry. This was one of the first companies to produce a vegan lip balm in a stick form. Delicious!" — Sarah, Doncaster. Available here

Katie Lee Stafford’s Poker Straight Range

FCOD 1990

"Glistening Straightening Balm – This product is excellent when you want that 'head-turning-shine' on a night out!
Flat Iron Protection Mist – Obviously this product is not used for styling, but it does exactly what it says on the bottle. If you straighten your hair, don't forget how important it is to protect it too!
Dehumidifier – This is my favorite product, it's brilliant, whether your hair is straight or curly. When straightened it keeps poker straight! and when curly it stops those fly away hairs from making you look like a shaggy dog, 5 stars!
Poker Straight Shampoo & Conditioner – These two are essential if you're going to give the poker straight range a try. They both leave your hair extra soft, de-frizzed, smelling fresh and it even helped get rid of my dry scalp, highly recommended! And what's great is you can buy the entire range for around £20.00, bargain!" — Katie, Cheltenham. Available here

Debbie Bath Potions’ 14 Karat Face Cream

FCOD 1976

"This is an absolute dream of a cream! It glides onto your skin leaving it feeling wonderfully soft and velvety. It is readily absorbed and isn’t greasy. The smell is absolutely to die for. It is already down on my list as an absolute essential for my skincare regime. Try it for yourself – you won’t be disappointed!" — Debbie, Andoversford, Glos. Available here

Michelle Astonish's Orange Household Paste Cleaner

FCOD 1995

"I love Astonish's Cream Cleaner with Orange Fresh smell. It cleans really well and because of the orange, it doesn't stink of bleach. I buy it from 'Everythings-a-Pound' in Winchester, which sells a good range of other Astonish products, including hand wash, car cleansers and limescale removers." — Michelle, Eastleigh. Available here

Dawn Cioccolatina's Scented Whipped Shea Butter

FCOD 2002

"Incredibly moisturising and having a lovely comforting scent, this handmade 100% whipped Shea Butter, melts on your skin, leaving it noticeably improved and replenished for hours and hours. I ordered over the internet, and received first rate service - efficient and friendly. FCOD 2004

"I just love Saaf's Nurturing Body Wash as it really does do just what it says. It is great for travelling as it is so versatile, I really do take one product into the shower for hair, face and body. It doesn't dry my skin even after a fortnight in the sun. Plus the packaging is unbreakable and I know it is pure and natural and never tested on animals. Sandhya Bath Potions’ Australian Clay Masks

FCOD 1976

"I was thrilled to see the Bath Potions logo on your endorsements page - I have just recently started using their Australian clay masks - they are fabulous - my favourite is the Opal one - they are just as cleansing and natural as green clay masks that you can buy here in France (which rip your skin to shreds when they dry!). Bravo to Bath Potions - carry on the good work." — Sandhya, Clermont-Ferrand, France. Available here

Laura Lush's 'Flying Fox'

"A while ago I suffered from really bad PMT... but not anymore!!! I have always loved Lush for its anti-cruelty policy, minimal packaging and mainly natural ingerdients, so I went into my local store to stock up on soap and bath goodies. I couldn't help but notice the beautiful scent of 'Flying Fox' balm as I walked past the counter - it is mainly jasmine with a delicate hint of honey, and as soon as it hit my nostrils I knew I had to have some - especially when I noticed that it was supposed to be good for the dreaded PMT!
